Metering Pin
As the result of many years of use in the test simulation
market Hyge Inc. now offers a solution to simplify and shorten
time required to develop pulses to desired specifications. This
solution is the Modular Pin accessory. It has evolved as a result
of the vast amount of documentation collected over many years
from variety of tested vehicles.
The modular design consists of a base assembly which includes
the first 50 millimeters of the pin, a threaded insert for mounting
on to the thrust piston, a threaded shaft for washer type spacers
to be slipped on and fastening nut. This allows the operator to
make adjustments to the pulse by simply replacing washers with
larger or smaller diameters as desired for pulse shaping.

Optional documentation can be supplied with the Modular Metering
Pin system containing 40 different pin builds. This provides information
on pulses dealing with vehicles ranging from small cars to vans
to larger SUVs (4x4 vehicles). Each includes graphical details
of the pulse required, the pulse achieved, a photograph of the
modular pin build up and a list of the shots parameters.
Using this method, modifications can be made in approximately
3 hours to determine a solution. This is in comparison to the
time consuming process involved with manufacturing or modifying
solid pins.
The system includes the supply of a complete modular pin kit.
The pulse library is optional.
The Modular Metering Pin Accessory combined with the Hyge Metering
Pin development program allows for rapid pulse development and
pulse tuning.

Changing firing parameters allows considerable variation
in pulse shape and duration from a given metering pin. These four
pulses, each derived from the same metering pin, were achieved
by varying firing pressure and cylinder volume. Acceleration is
increased by increasing load cylinder pressure. Duration is increased
by increasing set cylinder volume.

Design Software
A refined software program is available to enable the engineer
to design a metering pin to produce a desired pulse or modify
an existing pin to produce a new pulse.
The
pulse is entered into the program, along with desired shot parameters
(payload weight ,set /load volumes and pressures). The program
then produces a metering pin profile. This profile may be easily
modified by changing pressure or length parameters to achieve
desired effect on pin shape.
Also,
an existing pin profile may be entered allowing user to vary parameters
(payload weight ,set /load volumes and pressures) to run a simulation
to determine the effect on the acceleration-time pulse.
